Project summary: POWER IT (Preparing Our Workforce to Engage Responsibly with IT) aims to empower Childcare apprentices to engage confidently with IT by delivering a core communication module at level 2 entirely online with Functional Skills IT embedded throughout. The online learning objects will prepare apprentices for the module assessments by incorporating an online learning pedagogy developed by in an AoC e-learning project in 2013. POWER IT intends to address two key national agendas: firstly, the need to retain staff in the increasingly technologically rich childcare industry; and secondly, meet the wider needs set out in the recent FELTAG report. Each learning object will incorporate the use video, text, image and audio resources that provides media-rich content that caters for all learning styles, based on IT applications that apprentices use in the workplace. In the wider context, POWER IT aims to provide templates that can be used across different subject areas in the future.
